FORECAST: HAPPY WITH A CHANCE OF BLISS

Cosmetology student treks from Puerto Rico to La’ James International College, letting nothing stand in her way.

Temperatures are forecasted for over 80 degrees today in Arroyo, Puerto Rico. In case you hadn’t heard, it’s still winter here in Iowa. But that’s OK with Karla Michelle Santiago Lebron – a cosmetology student in Cedar Falls at La’ James International College – because the forecast for her future looks downright tropical.

Karla’s journey to Iowa, then to Cedar Falls, and then through LJIC hasn’t been all sunshine and lollipops, nothing worth having ever is, but hard work and high effort goes a long way.

Before enrolling at LJIC, Karla was a traditional college student at UNI; then she focused on being a mom. She decided that something was “missing” in the traditional college environment and decided to try a different avenue, “Hair and Cosmetology have always been a big part of my life, and I have been doing hair since I was a little girl. My mom is a cosmetologist and I grew up spending all my time after school in the salon and have always loved it!” She chose La’ James International College based on the experiences of several friends who graduated from LJIC and are doing very well.

Karla expects to graduate this month and is excited about what her future holds, “I love that I have had great educators throughout my time here! Ms Boldt and Ms Bunz have been a huge part of my education and my journey through LJIC.” What’s the next step in Karla’s Journey? Too be Determined… but it may lead her right back to LJIC were it all started! “In my time at LJIC and working with my instructors I’m learning I may have been born to be an educator!”

So even it it’s winter in Iowa, the forecast of Karla’s future looks pretty bright.
