Pursue your PASSION
Kelsey Seamer always had a passion for doing hair and make-up. “I always thought it was SO much fun and was told constantly that I am good at it!” In High School, Kelsey had toured La’ James International College in Iowa City with her best friend and fell in love with the school! “I had my daughter shortly after High School so I had put my dream on hold for a while. My best friend went to school at LJIC and told me how much she enjoyed it so I really wanted to pursue this career. My boyfriend encouraged me to come back and do something for myself and I am SO happy with my choice!” Kelsey is currently enrolled in LJIC’s Cosmetology program in Davenport. “This has been a very exciting journey full of firsts! The instructors are all very knowledgeable and passionate about our futures, and that pushes me to do my best at everything!”
During her journey at LJIC, Kelsey has enjoyed emerging herself into a creative and upcoming stylist! “I love this profession! You have so much freedom to express yourself and focus on what you’re passionate about! I’ve learned I LOVE doing Halloween and theater make-up! Also, a lot of my classmates really love doing up-dos where I tend to love doing men’s cuts. Everyone is so different here with their creativity and passions and I like that a lot!” Kelsey was just recently a model for one of her classmates at LJIC’s annual Trend Vision Competition last October! “Trend Vision was AMAZING! It is unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I loved seeing what all the other students did for the competition and listening to the guest speakers!” She is also actively involved in LJIC’s Student Ambassador Program! “I get to share my journey with potential students and tell them about all of the activities and opportunities LJIC has to offer!” According to Kelsey, her first client is definitely one experience she will never forget! “I was SO nervous for my first client. She had hair past her shoulder blades and wanted it above her ears! She also wanted to take her gray/white hair to a deep violet! It was definitely a huge makeover for this client! I was afraid of messing up, but my instructor walked me through the cut and it made me feel so much more comfortable having that extra encouragement!”
Kelsey is SO happy she decided to come back to school and fulfill her lifelong dream of being in the beauty industry! In the future, Kelsey looks forward to coming back to LJIC and completing the Esthetics and Massage Therapy program so one day she can open her very own, full service salon and spa! “My passion is to definitely own my own business! I started this journey late and I am so thankful I came back to school! It is NEVER too late to pursue something that you’re passionate about and it’s so important to never give up on your dreams!”
