The Choice was Obvious
As much as Denise knew Cosmetology was the career path for her she had others telling her she need to go to a traditional four-year school first. So, she decided to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha to minor in Psychology. “I made it six months and knew it was not for me.” That is when Denise came home and enrolled at LJIC. Denise has excelled in a smaller hands-on classroom environment. “I am a visual learner! At LJIC I don’t feel neglected or like just another number in a large classroom.”
While attending La’ James International College, Denise has had the opportunity to travel to Chicago to America’s Beauty Show. “I loved seeing all the possibilities and products out there it has expanded my knowledge of the industry.” Denise has also enjoyed working with her nursing home clients. “Seeing them come in as a repeat client and having them ask for a hug and tell you they missed you is so rewarding. They appreciate the time you take doing the service and love the services.”
Many people think Cosmetology is easy and anyone can do it but as Denise has learned in her time at LJIC, “there is a lot more to it than I expected in the beginning which makes it challenging. The instructors are there to help you each step of the way.”
After graduating Denise plans to work part time and further develop her skills she has obtained from LJIC. Eventually, Denise would like open her very own salon, “I want it to be unique and full service, I love being able to do Spa services like nails and facials along with hair service.”
