EASY DIY FOOT MASSAGE

How to Give Yourself a Foot Massage to Relieve Pain?

Cosmetologists, estheticians and massage therapists are used to standing for hours on end, but it’s time to give your feet a break. There’s nothing better than curling up at home on the couch and giving yourself a soothing foot massage.

If you are used to working on your feet, you can always give yourself a foot massage DIY style to relieve pain and sore muscles, including symptoms of plantar fasciitis, which affects the heel. It occurs when you put too much pressure on the heel of your foot. You may experience a stabbing pain in the heel area. Others experience pain around the Achilles tendon, which will tear under pressure. This can easily happen when lifting heavy items using the arch of your foot or standing on your tiptoes for too long.

Easy Foot Massage Steps

Use these tips to give yourself a massage that will leave your feet feeling refreshed after a hard day’s work. This foot massage DIY demonstration comes from Kalyn, Massage Therapy student at our beauty school in Cedar Falls.

Step 1: Grip your foot with both hands and your knee bent. Place your thumb on the top and your fingers on the base of your foot. Using your fingers, start by applying gentle pressure to the area inside by the ball of the foot, one of your body’s many reflex points. This is also known as the Lung & Heart Reflex Zone.

Step 2: Next move to your big toe. Place your thumb on top of the nail and apply pressure to the bottom of your big toe with your pointer finger. With a firm grip, gently pull on the big toe. This area is also known as the Brain & Pineal Reflex Zone.

Step 3: Grip the base of your foot. Your thumb should rest on the side, right under the big toe. Begin walking your fingers with firm pressure across the area under all the toes. (The walking motion is like tapping your fingers on a desk) This area is also known as the Sinus Reflex Zone.
