La’ James International College Announces Agreement with State of Iowa, Focused Commitment on Education

(Des Moines, Iowa) — La’ James International College (LJIC) today announced the organization has entered into a consent judgment with the state of Iowa to address some concerns related to operational processes and policies.

“We believe entering into this agreement is in the best interest of our students, instructors and alumni,” said Cynthia Becher, LJIC president. “The beauty industry is a growing and expanding area, and we want to focus all of our energy and efforts into educating the next generation of cosmetologists, estheticians and massage therapists.”

The agreement outlines some changes related to communication materials, tuition and fees, and updating the time tracking and leave of absence policies, among others. Many of these changes have already been or are beginning to be implemented according to Becher. Under the agreement, a state appointed administrator will provide oversight for the next three years and the company will forgive $2.1 million in former student debt.

La’ James has a proud history of providing cosmetology and massage education to students in eight campuses throughout Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska. The on-time program completion rate of La’ James students is 75 percent compared to an 11 percent on-time completion rate at Iowa community colleges in the communities La’ James operates.
