Larissa Eastman knew she wanted a career doing something art related. She loved art in high school but once she graduated, she was unsure where to pursue her passion. “I was working as an Administrative Assistant and Customer Service Representative at a sporting goods store back in my home town when I decided to pursue a career in Cosmetology! I knew a career in Cosmetology would fulfill my desire for a job that balances my passion for arts and customer service!” Larissa enrolled at La’ James International College in Des Moines to pursue her career goals and has loved every minute of it. “I fell in love with this campus during my tour and once enrolled began meeting the best people! I’ve met lifelong friends and I am so grateful for that every day! I could see myself thriving at LJIC and I am so happy I came here!”
Though she thought she would catch on to color quickly with her art background, she found it more nerve-wracking at first than what she anticipated. “I really thought color was going to be the most fun but I got so scared of it! It wasn’t till I realized it was an art form and if I am just creative with it I can make it my own!” Larissa’s hard work has not gone unnoticed. She has earned Top Service Provider at her campus for multiple weeks now, constantly re-booking clients! “I love talking with my clients while performing a service. It really is a great balance of my passions for customer service and art! It’s so nice when my clients tells me I’m going to go far and excel in this career choice. It makes everything worth it!” Larissa is also a Student Ambassador where she enjoys going to events and telling others about a career in Cosmetology! “I loved going to the career fairs and students getting excited! It took so long for me to know what I wanted that I wish I did it sooner so I like to encourage others to do it and pursue their passion!”
Larissa’s career in Cosmetology is only just beginning! She graduated from the Des Moines Campus earlier this week and is looking forward to starting her career with Supercuts! She took advantage of a great opportunity LJIC offers and mentored with the salon she will work at. “I am SO glad I mentored! I feel so confident going into the salon now after graduating and knowing who I’m going to work with and more about the salon! It puts me on the floor faster and I can’t wait to get started! I hope for a long career with Supercuts and to build a large clientele that in the future, will follow me to my next adventure!” Though she might not have started right away, Larissa encourages anyone trying to decide if now is the time to start school to just do it! “If you’re even thinking about it, you should do it! I LOVE my decision on choosing LJIC to pursue this career path!”
