What Happens in Vegas…
Recent Wella Regional Trend Vision Top 3 Finalist and La’ James International College Davenport student, Cameron Kepford is on a mission to Vegas!! “It was such an honor to be on stage with so many exceptional talents! America’s Beauty Show is just the start! I have the opportunity as a Top 3 finalist to travel to Vegas and compete nationally,” an then from there Cameron could compete internationally in Berlin, Germany.
Cameron was 1 of 7 competitors selected to compete on stage in Chicago at America’s Beauty Show out of 200 plus Trend Vision Student Competition category entries. Cameron’s trend was Molten Ecaille and his inspiration came from the Statue of Liberty. He looked at the modeling and oxidation of metals knowing that originally the Statue of Liberty was bronze when it came to the United States as a gift from the French. And over the years the oxidation and environment has turned the glorious statue into its well-known sea foam green color we see today. His model’s hair placement translated the transition from Bronze and Copper tones to the sea foam greens. Cameron also used texture to help activate the look and the colors throughout the hair; he really wanted to showcase wearable art in a fun everyday look and feel.
Why did Cameron decided to compete in Trend Vision only 16 weeks into his Cosmetology schooling? Cameron has always loved to be able to be creative and artistic whether it is with photography, graphic design or hair & makeup. “I am so inspired by platform artists and had such a great support from Wella, my LJIC instructors and Ms. Kay, LJIC College Administrator, has given me so much inspiration and has been so supportive & encouraging! LJIC has become my 2nd family!” Ms. Kay and her daughter were there in Chicago cheering on Cameron at the competition along with Karen Kaalberg from Wella Corporation.
Karen looks back and remembers when Cameron attended Wella’s Regional Trend Vision competition last year in Minneapolis as an observer; he made the statement that he was going to be on stage for Trend Vision next year. “There was so much great talent on the Trend Vision stage in Chicago! In 16 short weeks, Cameron has already accomplished many of his goals! he should be very proud.”
Cameron has been working in the salon industry since the age of 19 and at the age of 25 he decided to open his very own salon that has been voted one of the best salons, the Haus of Heir, in the Quad Cities this last year. Now at 28 he is following his dreams to becoming a licensed cosmetologist! He chose La’ James International College because his top 2 stylists at his salon were LJIC graduates and highly recommended La’ James International College education. He loved that LJIC also offers the flexibility of the 3 day online cosmetology schedule. He attends school 3 days a week, works in his salon 3 days a week and Sunday is his online homework day! Cameron feels he really has the “Best of bother worlds now! That is what I was born to do!”
“La’ James International College couldn’t be more proud of Cameron and his accomplishment! We can’t wait to see him in Vegas on stage!” says Holly Kay, College Administrator at the LJIC Davenport Campus.
