A lot of people question if “coloring” your hair is going to damage it. Of course many different things can determine if that is a yes or no answer. What type of products do you use? What is the condition of your current hair? Are you getting your hair colored professionally or doing it at home? Are you going lighter or darker?

Hair color needs an activator to work which is called a developer. Developers use an ingredient called peroxide. Peroxide breaks down the melanin in your hair cuticle which can leave clients hair dry and brittle. That is where using professional products is crucial and always recommended.  Going lighter with your existing coloring will always be a bit more “damaging.”

Getting your hair done by a licensed professional to have a full consultation will help when determining if your hair can handle and react correctly to what you are wishing to do to your color.
