ASPIRING COSMETOLOGY STUDENT USES SOCIAL MEDIA TO GROW HER BUSINESS WHILE STILL IN SCHOOL!
Bella Kim is set to begin her career in Cosmetology after she graduates from La’ James International College – Des Moines in July. She’s getting a jump on the competition by developing her online presence while still in school.
Wondering what to do when an ombre* goes wrong? Maybe you’re daydreaming of a sun-kissed bob? Or perhaps you’re hankering for a manicure with pink polka dots?
Meet La’ James International College’s newest rising star, Bella Kim. Like many of LJIC’s aspiring Cosmetologists, Bella is assisting clients with all of these issues, and she’s having a blast doing it. But Bella is doing more than honing her styling skills; she’s getting a jump on the competition by promoting her talents via social media and the Internet and it’s starting to pay off!
“Using social media to engage your clientele is an important part of building a successful business,” says Stephanie Wood, LJIC’s Director of Admissions. “Bella has excelled at developing her online presence, and she is proving to be a very talented stylist.”
Bella uses Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Bloom to post pictures of the work she’s done on La’ James International College’s cutting edge, full service salon floor. She says that friends and family see the quality of work that she’s done and come to the school to take advantage of the services offered. “People are getting such a good deal,” Bella says about LJIC’s discounted services. “They don’t realize how much hair we do here.”
Bella is from Des Moines and grew up immersed in fashion and style. In fact, her mom owns Avant Salon in West Des Moines, and Bella spent her childhood learning the industry. When the time came for Bella to choose a Cosmetology School, she says her mom stressed the importance of learning a universal color line. She says that was a big factor in her decision to choose La’ James International College.
Bella is set to graduate in July and says that she plans on training under her mom for a year or so.
“I want to actually have my hands in hair”, she says, noting the importance of gaining experience and furthering her education even after finishing school. Once she has learned what she can from her mother, Bella plans on moving to Denver to be closer to her brother. “That is the cool thing about being a Cosmetologist, you can pick up and do it anywhere.” Bella says with a smile.
