DIY : Hair Treatments

Cosmetology student Collin Hilgenberg goes LIVE on Facebook at La’ James International College in Des Moines to show everyone a few simple DIY Hair Treatments students are working on in class…

What You Need [Treatment #1]:

  •         Hair Mayonnaise
  •         Olive Oil
  •         Clarifying Shampoo & Conditioner

What You Need [Treatment #2]:

  •         Brown Sugar
  •         Honey
  •         Olive Oil
  •         Clarifying Shampoo & Conditioner

What You Need [Treatment #3]:

  •         Apple Cider Vinegar
  •         Olive Oil
  •         Clarifying Shampoo & Conditioner

Treatment #1:

Hair mayonnaise & Olive oil infuses shine back into the hair. It is not a protein treatment because mayonnaise molecules are too large to fit into the cuticle of the hair. So this is not for strengthening. Avoid store bought mayonnaise [unless it is all natural or organic] because of the preservatives. An alternative to hair mayonnaise is to separate egg yolks from the whites and beat them with olive oil until you get the desired consistency. Once you apply the mixture, let it sit for 20 minutes. To remove, use clarifying shampoo & condition. This will also help to get rid of the mayonnaise smell.

Treatment #2:

Honey, brown sugar, lemon juice & olive oil. Honey is a humectant, so it will lock in moisture. Brown Sugar is a natural exfoliator for the scalp. This will refresh the scalp plus get it nice and clean. Lemon Juice is an astringent, so it will restore the natural ph balance to the scalp. The olive oil infuses shine into the hair. This treatment is sticky & messy. Once you apply the mixture, let is sit for 20 minutes. To remove, use clarifying shampoo & conditioner.

Treatment #3:

Apply Cider Vinegar & Olive Oil is an astringent & a moisturizer. Once you apply the mixture, let is sit for 20 minutes. To remove, use clarifying shampoo & conditioner.

Thank you Collin for the great tips!!!
